Dear Shadowy Russian Conspirators (whoever you are),

I know we don’t really know for a fact at all that you were the ones who leaked the contents of Hillary Clinton’s private email server, hacked DNC emails, and Clinton campaign chairman John Podesta’s email account to Julian Assange and WikiLeaks.

That as Glenn Greenwald meticulously detailed at The Intercept in December, all we have at this point are some wild claims initiated by the Washington Post and echoed in the New York Times that “are based exclusively on the unverified assertions of anonymous officials, who in turn are disseminating their own claims about what the CIA purportedly believes, all based on evidence that remains completely secret.”

So I’m writing this open letter to you as if these claims about you are true, even though we hardly have any smoking guns yet.

Because if they are true, the American people, and especially Democrats, even the ones who refuse to see why, owe you big time for doing what our own establishment media– including the Post and the Times– didn’t do in the last election.

If only our own mainstream media companies, Guardians of Democracy and Heralds of Truth that they purport to be, could have kept us as well-informed about our political candidates as you did!

Isn’t the role of a free press to keep power in check by informing citizens about what their most powerful and influential politicians are really up to?

Yet even after you revealed to the American public something they had absolutely every right to know, and a very vested interest in being informed about, that a major party candidate had colluded with a supposedly impartial national party committee to steal the election from a true reform candidate who was actually on the verge of winning(!), our mainstream media still refused to cover the story in a measure equal to its importance!

Thank goodness the World Wide Web and social media are now here forever to shine a light where those in power don’t want us to look.

Most of all thank you for helping history to have a way to understand how and why someone like Donald Trump got elected in 2016!

We may have never learned this lesson for next time had we not known that Trump and the GOP weren’t really up against the best that the Democratic Party had to offer.

That they were able to coast the brash business mogul in over the head of someone who wasn’t there to oppose him because of a powerful message and an inspired vision, but because of a cynical ploy to steal the party nomination from the voters, a cynicism that was no match for Trump’s cynical appeal to the lowest common denominator, and a ploy that couldn’t be repeated at the general election level.

We Americans have a legitimate interest and an unqualified right to know about these kinds of nefarious machinations at the highest levels of political authority.

It’s just too bad that it took a foreign government to do tell us the truth about our political process this last election and not our own clearly worthless mainstream media.

Sincerely,
An American Busybody
