Mass shooting reported at Kentucky high school

Tragedy struck a high school in Kentucky Tuesday morning as law enforcement officials have said that at least five students were shot by a gunman at the school in the southwestern part of the state.

According to Kentucky Governor Matt Bevin, at least one person died in the shooting at Marshall County High School in Benton, KY, though first responders are still on the scene. Teachers and students reportedly went on lockdown as the shooting unfolded.

Authorities reported that a suspect in the shooting has been apprehended, CBS reported, and a pistol has been located and secured. The Daily Mirror reported that the shooting may have unfolded in the school’s commons room.

“Tragic shooting at Marshall County HS…Shooter is in custody, one confirmed fatality, multiple others wounded…Much yet unknown…Please do not speculate or spread hearsay…Let’s let the first responders do their job and be grateful that they are there to do it for us,” Bevin tweeted.

This is a developing story and details will be added as they are confirmed.
